Principal's Welcome

Willkommen, welcome, bienvenu, salve, bienvenidos, welkom … These are some of the languages spoken at the GESS. Languages with which we get to know each other, with which our students acquire knowledge and skills as well as the attitude needed to grow in independence and tolerance and become responsible citizens. This applies to children of all nationalities at our school aged from 18 months to 18 years.

The European School in Singapore
In our Toddler, Kindergarten or Pre-Primary groups, taught by English and German native speakers, the youngest members of our school community learn and develop together through activities stimulating social, intellectual and motor skills. From Grade 1 onwards, our top primary school offers our students two different educational programmes under one roof.

Established in 1971, our German Section offers all German school leaving certificates, following an accredited German school curriculum. As one of the first “Excellent German Schools Abroad”, we are proud that our students sitting the year 10 exams (Mittlere Reife) and the grade 12 exam (Abitur) regularly achieve above average results and are able to reintegrate into the German system smoothly and successfully upon their return.

In our European Section students are educated in English following the three International Baccalaureate Programmes (PYP, MYP, DP). Graduates from our IB diploma programme constantly score above average and are being considered by the best universities around the world for their tertiary education. Recently, GESS’ European Section has become an accredited member of the prestigious Council of International Schools (CIS).

Building blocks of our success – what makes GESS special
We place great emphasis on individualised support, small classes and differentiation in lessons. This allows all our students from more than 50 nations to fulfill their personal potential, supported by dedicated and highly qualified teachers as well as an inclusive school community. To promote the school’s cohesion, German and English lessons at different skill levels are part of the curriculum in both sections. Apart from academic excellence, numerous and varied opportunities to engage in creative or sporting activities as well as taking on social responsibility in community projects play an important part in the development of our students here at GESS.
